Team Red Bull wasted no time in trolling Mercedes‘ new boy, George Russell. The Englishman is replacing Lewis Hamilton, who tested positive for the COVID-19 bug ahead of this race weekend in Sakhir GP.

He is the talk of the Formula 1 community right now. And his opponents, Max Verstappen and Alex Albon, have made an unusual request from him; as if driving the fastest car on the grid wasn’t enough.

In the driver’s mandatory press conference before the race, Max asked his teammate Alex Albon, “Did he already send you a topless selfie in a Mercedes suit?”

“No, he didn’t. We don’t have that kind of relationship!” came the witty reply from Albon. “Let me know if he does or he might pose on Instagram, anyway… So I’m waiting,” said Max Verstappen.

“Yeah, I am as well actually. Come on George, we haven’t seen it,” Albon said, urging his friend on. Come on George, you don’t want to let everyone down on your Mercedes debut. Watch the full hilarious exchange in the video below –

George Russell has a history with Topless selfies

There’s a reason behind this comical exchange between the two drivers. George has a history of topless photos in his team’s racing suits.

Back in February 2020, during the time of pre-season testing, he posted a photo on his Instagram account. It was of him in his team’s racing suit, tagging both Alex Albon and Lando Norris.

Now we know the reason behind this jibe from the Red Bull duo. However, the driver who is on loan from Williams will want to do more than post ‘topless selfies’ this weekend.

Getting a chance to drive the W11 is unique, especially in these circumstances. Making this one-off drive successful will go a long way in improving his chances with the team for the future. Maybe if he wins the race, he can pose for a ‘topless selfie’ with the trophy.
