Carlos Sainz delivered one of his best performances at the Red Bull ring last weekend. Ferrari’s strategies with the tires meant that towards the end of the race, team orders were put in place. His teammate, Charles Leclerc, had to withhold a battle with Daniel Ricciardo, and let Sainz take his place. This turned out to be a success as the Spaniard finished fifth, while Leclerc trailed three places behind him.

Sainz talked about the team orders recently, saying, “We work together as a team, we push as hard as we can, we try to push the team forward. There will be races where Charles is ahead or I will have to get ahead of him like in Portimao, which makes sense.” The Chilli is on his debut season with the Prancing Horses and has shown great potential so far. Charles and Carlos seem to make a good equation on track- pushing through the crowds to score points.

Ferrari’s youngest pairing

The two drivers have taken the red team to another level this season. After the 2020 season, Ferrari would’ve looked to a fresher and faster lineup, and the current pairing delivers. Sainz’s pace and tire management equate well with Leclerc’s overtaking and competitiveness. The races so far have only proved that these two can take Ferrari where they want to be.
