Sergio Perez is in dire straits regarding his future in F1. After a sudden dismissal from Racing Point, Checo is at a tense juncture in his career. The Mexican finds himself in a huge dilemma now regarding which team to join. That is if any options exist at all.

“You need to make the best decision for the team mid to long-term, not only the immediate. Because immediately, we don’t have an issue, but we need to see where we want to go in the mid to long-term because that is where the opportunity is in my opinion. We need to fix that one,” remarked Steiner.
On being asked to shed light on Perez having a seat in 2021, Steiner’s answer shocked many.
“There is nothing at the moment, which is a no-brainer because there are so many options.”
Sergio Perez had been a fantastic racer in 2018. He has responsibly saved Racing Point and many of his colleagues with the season. However, it has been two years since then and a lot has changed on the grid. Lance Stroll was performing better than Checo, and therefore the Mexican is under scrutiny all over.
“For sure, Checo is a good driver, I would never doubt him. But is he the best for the mid to long term? I don’t know. That is what we are discussing, so therefore it is not such a no-brainer as it seems to be,” declared the Haas headman.

Steiner further elaborated on what the team is planning on the contrary. He has been stressing on the aspect of future and long-term goals. Keeping that in mind, he said, he would be keen to see some young blood in the car.
He clarified that the team is not after the prize money but after the podiums and trophies. Therefore, his thirst regarding the young racers seems reasonable.
“It could be, I don’t know yet, that’s more a Ferrari [decision], if they ask us to help out,” replied Steiner on being proposed the possibility of the Ferrari Drivers’ Academy.
