“The braking zone really benefited my style of braking, which was just bang on the brakes super hard and then start to go off.

“And Lewis, he went more carefully on the brakes, to really try and feel the limit as he was coming on, and therefore he lost a bit of deceleration in this first part, because the track was so better suited for my style.”

The German continued, explaining how a circuit renovation after the 2014 race affected his performance on the track.

“And then in 2014 or 15, they changed the asphalt, they removed the first bump or whatever it was. And my style didn’t work anymore, when I did bang, the front wheels would always lock up and would ruin the whole corner for me.

“I would make up almost one and half or two tenths on Lewis on this turn one braking every time, and it ruined for me, and that’s why I wasn’t on pole anymore in 2015, it was just much more difficult,” Rosberg concluded.

Rosberg is well aware of good Hamilton is, having driven alongside him at Mercedes for three seasons. He managed to beat him in 2016 and claim his first-ever world title. Now, he believes that Verstappen is feeling the same pressure he did while trying to beat Lewis.
