It looks like the Mercedes F1 team managed to stick to their promise with the former Haas F1 driver, Romain Grosjean, after all. The Stuttgart outfit finally affirmed that the Frenchman will be receiving a proper farewell from F1, as he will get to drive the W12 at his home Grand Prix in France, later this year.
Mercedes took to social media to reveal this exciting news for the F1 fans, mentioning that Grosjean will be taking part in a one-off test with the defending champions.
“He’s back. Romain Grosjean will return to F1 in a special one-off test with the team!” the team wrote on Twitter.

The former F1 driver recently fought his way through a disturbing crash during the Bahrain Grand Prix last year. The French lad suffered burns to both his hands and his ankles.
Hence, despite his desperate efforts, Grosjean never managed to finish off his F1 career on a high by taking part in Abu Dhabi.
And that was when Mercedes came up with this offer, which Grosjean accepted wholeheartedly. However, considering the slow recovery rate, the 35-year-old couldn’t be fit enough to take part in the post-season testing in Abu Dhabi. And now, after almost five months, the wait is finally over for Grosjean and also the entire F1 fandom.
Grosjean responds to Mercedes’ offer
The moment Mercedes revealed the news, Grosjean gave a pleasing yet emotional response to the team, as he thanked Toto Wolff, too, for the opportunity.
“I am so excited to jump back in an F1 car!” he said. “It will be a special opportunity for me and to drive a world championship-winning Mercedes will be a unique experience.

“I’m very grateful to Mercedes F1 and to Toto for the opportunity. The first I heard about the chance to drive a Mercedes was in my hospital bed in Bahrain when Toto was speaking to the media and made the invitation. Read that news cheered me up a lot!
“F1 didn’t get the chance to race in France during 2020 because of Covid, so driving a Mercedes at the French Grand Prix in 2021 and then completing a test at the Circuit Paul Ricard, my home track, will be so special. I can’t wait for the day to arrive,” Grosjean added.
