Try and try, until you succeed will be the motto at the Mercedes camp in Brackley. The Silver Arrows have suffered from a disappointing season this term. Furthermore, both their drivers are without a win and were way off the leader, Max Verstappen throughout the season. However, Mercedes engineer James Vowles believes that W14 (Mercedes’ next year’s F1 car) will be a step towards fighting for the title again.

Lewis Hamilton led much of the second half of the race in Austin. However, he lost out to Max Verstappen in the final few laps of the race and finished P2. It was probably the first time since Abu Dhabi GP last year that the Mercedes came close to a victory. Moreover, Mercedes’ recent struggles have been quite evident in races such as Suzuka and Spa.
With just 3 races to go in the season, Mercedes engineers will be hoping for the season to end as soon as possible. Moreover, the engineers were hopeful for the W14 car as they answer fan questions.
A fan asked, “Not a question, but I hope the W14 will be a rocket beast.” To this, James Vowles replied, “Probably different terminology internally, but completely we mirror your sentiment on this one. We’re here to come back and fight for wins and for the championship next year.”
“The w14 has to be a step, and will be a step over where we are now”.

Former F1 driver believes Red Bull’s success is similar to that of Mercedes
Former world champion with Mercedes, Nico Rosberg, said that Red Bull is in the early stages of Mercedes-like domination. Rosberg won the championship with the Silver Arrows in 2016, beating Lewis Hamilton for the title. Now, the situation is a little different as Red Bull won the constructor’s championship and ended Mercedes’ 8-year reign at the top.
Rosberg told Sky Sports, “Red Bull are the dominant force at the moment in the way that Mercedes were in all these past years. Securing that constructors’ championship as well so early, also having such a dominant team in every area at the moment, just as Mercedes had.”

He mentioned that they have the development team required to make a dominant car year in and year out. Additionally, in Max, they also have one of the best drivers on the grid who can challenge Lewis Hamilton. He also praised the strategy team of Red Bull, stating they’re often spot-on with their calls.
Rosberg added, “It’s definitely in a period now where it’s going to be so difficult for any other team to come close again, even next year, the way it’s going at the moment because they have such momentum.”
