Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff have won many races together in their time together with Mercedes. However, the duo is not finished yet! They plan to replicate their former driver’s achievements and ink themselves in the history books.

The Mercedes duo sat down for a chat in a video from 2018 and talked about what convinced them to join Mercedes and what plans they have for the future. Sir Lewis also took a sly dig at Ferrari as he mentioned his desire to make Mercedes the most dominant team and “upset the red cars.”

Lewis Hamilton explained the jaw-dropping moment when Ross Brawn visited him at his home and sat on his kitchen table. He felt flattered that the person who had won so many GPs with Michael Schumacher was asking him to replace the German Great at Mercedes.

He said, “You saw Ross on the TV you know, on the pit wall for all those Grand Prix’s and then I got the guy in my mom’s kitchen asking me to basically replace Michael.”

The boy from Stevenage talks about Michael Schumacher’s move to Ferrari and how the German overturned their fortunes.

“I loved the idea that you know you watched Michael go to Ferrari and when and take them from not being successful and be a part of that journey and winning it looked amazing to watch and I wanted to do something like that”

The Mercedes Driver also addresses people’s concerns about his move to replace Schumacher. He explained why he was comfortable with the decision and used a personal trait to make up his mind.

“I am a risk taker” Lewis Hamilton on joining Mercedes

The Brit brushed off people’s concern about his move to Mercedes and compared the project to a little baby growing into something.

“People saw it as a big risk but I saw it as a, I’m a risk taker and I’ll and that’s exciting, if you’re not taking risk you’re not living.”

Toto reflected on his relationship with Sir Frank Williams, his daughter Claire and the then CEO of Williams Mike O’Driscoll as well as his relationship with his colleagues.

Moving to Mercedes from Williams has been a rewarding decision for the Austrian. However, The Mercedes Team Principal said it was not an easy decision to make at the time. Wolff said, “I struggled, I struggled to really leave Williams,”

It is safe to say, both Lewis’ risk-taking ability and Toto Wolff’s decision to leave Williams for Mercedes have yielded much success for the duo.
