Red Bull and Max Verstappen are now too far ahead to be reached by any other team. But the battle for P2 is on between Mercedes and Aston Martin. The Canadian GP was a prime example of what is to come in further races. Lewis Hamilton v/s Fernando Alonso is the battle to watch out for. And judging by Alonso’s confidence and consistency, he looks more than ready to take on Mercedes.
In Montreal, Alonso started P2 on the grid and Hamilton started P3. After ‘Lights Out’, Hamilton got a better start and claimed P2 before the 1st corner. It took the Spaniard 23 laps to get that place back. In Lap 23, Alonso overtook Hamilton before the last corner and kept that place till the end of the race. It was a case of ‘so close yet so far’ for Lewis Hamilton. Alonso was delighted with such a result.
Alonso said, as quoted by as.com, “It has been fantastic to be back on the podium in Canada. The improvements that we have introduced to the car seem to work well and we will continue to optimize the set-up for Austria”

He further added, “It’s a fast, short lap here and usually provides for some good racing and overtaking. You have to be careful with the exit areas of the track and try to avoid damaging the cars with the hard curbs. I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do. The objective will be to maintain this form and score as many points for the team as we try to regain second place in the Constructors’ Championship.”
The 2-time champion is now proving that age is not a factor at all. It is his determination to win that is sealing the deal during the race weekends. Such close fights are what excite him.

The Canadian GP podium was a very unique one. It was graced by 3 World Champions, and they seemed very comfortable and secure in each other’s presence. On the racetrack, the pressure is high and certain things are said. But, off it, the three of them look like the best of friends.
After the race, Alonso said, as quoted by express.co.uk, “I really enjoy these battles and these podiums. There is a lot of respect, a lot of talent when you fight against Max and Lewis.” He said he is also aware of the fact that one tiny mistake could cost him the position because that is how good his rivals are.
