McLaren, who in disbelief had declared that their season will effectively start in Baku, has been pleasantly surprised. Their gamble of trading one Australian for another has paid off and the rookie Oscar Piastri has delivered. Post the Bahrain curtain raiser, the Papaya team became the center of memes, especially by Daniel Ricciardo‘s fan base. The feat pulled off by Piastri definitely will give them a sleepless night as the latter starts P9 tomorrow.

Lando Norris, the master of qualifying, has had an impeccable record where he has only seen two occasions when he got left out in Q1. While Lando being stuck at the first part of qualifying just seemed to reiterate the horror show of the previous race where he was lapped by Max Verstappen twice, an unthinkable feat was pulled off by his rookie teammate Oscar Piastri. There were no doubts about the new Australian’s pedigree and he proved the supporters right even before the start of the second Grand Prix.

The Papaya team’s CEO, Zak Brown, was questioned on his leadership for not being able to deliver and may now see some respite. As the team’s wager and subsequent tussle with Alpine have paid off. Oscar Piastri has finally delivered what they hired him to do.
