FIA race director Michael Masi has been under fire for much of the 2021 F1 season. The two top teams, Red Bull and Mercedes have expressed their discontent with Masi and his decision-making on many occasions. Mercedes have gone a step ahead following the disarrayed last lap in Abu Dhabi GP. Team Principal Toto Wolff has shunned the possibility of any further conversation with the Aussie.
Moreover, Wolff has decided to boycott the FIA prize-giving ceremony for the 2021 season. Notably, there is bad air between these two prominent figures in the paddock ever since the debacle at the Yas Marina Circuit cost Hamilton his 8th title. During the final moments of the race, Masi decided to let the 5 cars between Hamilton and Verstappen to unlap themselves and overtake the safety car.
Lewis Hamilton, who was on old rubbers, had to cede his ground to the Red Bull driver and ended up losing the title. Naturally, the Austrian boss was frustrated and could be heard saying, “No Michael, that’s not fair! Michael, what was that?”

Toto Wolff is in no mood to interact with Masi
In a recent update by F1 journalist Ben Hunt, when Wolff was asked about having a conversation with Masi, he had a stone-cold reaction to it. The Silver Arrows boss said that he has no plans of having a conversation with him.
“I am not interested in having a conversation with Michael Masi...” said Wolff as reported by Hunt.
“The FIA needs to decide if they are going to bother going forwards.” he added.

In another update, Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton will not be a part of the FIA prize-giving saga 2021. Instead, Mercedes’ chief technical officer James Allison will be representing the team. He will also receive the constructors’ trophy on behalf of the team.
The team also issued a statement today that they are not willing to pursue an appeal against the Stewards’ decision. They congratulated the Red Bull team and Max Verstappen for their accomplishments this season.
