Many F1 fans fail to acknowledge the physical aspect of racing and the aftermath of completing a Grand Prix distance on a driver’s body. These high-performance athletes lose up to 3-4 kg after completing a race and need to prepare their bodies for the G-forces it encounters. Let’s look at how Lewis Hamilton prepares himself for an F1 race.

The Brit is the most accomplished driver on the grid and one of the biggest reasons behind his triumph is the work he puts in behind the scenes. Just like he pushes the limits of his Mercedes on track, he pushes his own limits off-track to be the best version of himself.

Ahead of the Hungarian GP, he posted a training video on his Instagram story that provided a glimpse into his workout routine. It featured him flawlessly performing the TRX tricep extensions and bent-over barbell rows. Despite being stuck in a motorhome, which is a small confined space, he did not skip his training session, which shows his commitment to fitness.

Furthermore, Hamilton has often featured running videos with his trainer, Angela Cullen. Cardiovascular fitness is an extremely important aspect for an F1 driver as during a race it is normal for a driver’s heartbeat to range between 150-160 bpm. Moreover, a lot of focus is put on training the core and the neck muscles to sustain loads of such high speeds.

It was not an easy journey for the F1 superstar to disassociate himself from dairy or meat, but the impact it had on his body convinced him to let go of the former food choices. In an interview with Men’s Health, he shared his experience over the years.

He said, “Three years ago, I decided to follow a plant-based diet. The only thing I regret is not having done it before. My taste buds have learned about things that I never thought I would eat and that I now love: falafel, avocado, beetroot, fresh and dried fruit. I’ve also noticed a marked improvement in my fitness level since I switched, which is motivating.”
