Fernando Alonso has put his faith in Alpine to carry out El Plan. The Spaniard looks forward to competing more closely to the top of the grid next season, and to do so, he would require the car beneath him to be just as powerful as his determination. Thus, improving the Renault engine remains a top priority for the team.
With Honda now out of the picture, there are now three engine manufacturers in the game- Mercedes, Ferrari, and Renault. Undoubtedly, Mercedes has been the more powerful name of the three. Reportedly, Renault’s drivetrain was 35 hp behind the top PU- which is a concerning amount for a team looking to claim the pecking order in 2022.
However, Alpine has seemingly found its way to close the difference. Renault’s CEO, Luca de Meo, is confident in Alpine’s development of the 2022 machine. “We are going to change the architecture of the engine for next year: a much finer engine, there will be more horsepower.”

Alpine also claimed: “We have taken a leap in this, now we have to stabilize the engine.” Further, de Meo added, “We cannot continue to be in the middle zone. If I have to sign, I will sign to have the best 11 possible in the field.”

It looks like Alpine has firm faith in el plan as well. Looking to get out of the mid-field, the even grounds of the 2022 season may present the perfect opportunity for the rebranded Renault to make themselves a championship-winning team again.
