The Mercedes 2022 challenger has been struggling with significant porpoising this season. For that, the team had to increase the ride height but doing so affected the car’s pace. So, Mercedes will introduce many upgrades to help the car’s aerodynamics.
Mercedes W13 upgrades for the Spanish GP
Recently the Mercedes trackside engineering director, Andrew Shovlin, revealed the W13 would have a new floor, front wing, and deflector. The first significant upgrade would be the gentle curves in the front wing endplate to improve the flow at the front.
Another upgrade that the Silver Arrows will introduce is adding a slot to the outer edge of the floor. It will help improve the floor performance when the car’s floor gets close to the ground.
The German F1 team is eyeing increasing the diffuser load for more flow conditioning. Moreover, they are adding a new lower deflector endplate. Also, there are changes to the floor body, adding a new bib vane to the keel.

The Mercedes trackside engineer explained the floor body upgrade, “The new bib vane has a dual function and benefit: first, it generates local load in the middle of the car: second, it sends a vortex under the main floor of the car.“
Importance of the Spanish GP for The Silver Arrows
The reigning constructor champions are nowhere near the battle for lifting podiums. So far, the Silver Arrows have only experienced two third-place finishes in Bahrain and Australia. However, those wins were thanks to the Red Bull and Ferrari running into problems.
