Sebastian Vettel will bid adieu to Formula 1 racing after the 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix concludes. Winning 53 GPs and 4 consecutive titles (2010-2013) sums up the legacy of the German driver. Many drivers don’t get the chance to decide their fate in the sport while Vettel has been the master of his own destiny, as he has chosen to call off his illustrious career. As he recently explained, he has no regrets as he is entering retirement.

This weekend’s race is going to be his 299th Grand Prix. The German driver has arguably achieved it all and is heading into F1 retirement ‘in peace.’ However, Vettel knows the reality, as the Aston Martin machinery might not support the German driver to increase his tally of points at the Yas Marina Circuit.

As his past two seasons with the Aston Martin haven’t yielded many good results, Sebastian Vettel is aware of the fact that the Abu Dhabi race probably won’t make much of a difference. Hence, he simply wants to enjoy his last weekend of the F1 journey.

“Of course, it would be nice to win my last race but, being realistic, it’s going to be very difficult,” said Vettel as per The Race. “From the outside, you think it will be much better to go out on a high and so important to win the last race, or to win another championship, or win the championship and then retire. But the only person that it really matters to is myself.”

Adding further, he said, “That’s the way I see it. So I’m in peace with it. I know that my last race probably will not be the highlight of all the whatever how many races I’ve done. It doesn’t matter too much.”

He described on the F1 Beyond The Grid podcast, “I think I just felt a big relief because the decision is a very big, life-changing one to me.
