The race in UAE will be the last race for Jean Todt in Formula 1 as FIA President. He will bid farewell to the sport he had been a part of for three decades. Moreover, it seems like Jean Todt will come back to where he started his F1 career, i.e Ferrari.

According to recent reports, Todt might return to the Italian team as a ‘super consultant’. This is a similar role that Niki Lauda had in Mercedes. Even though nothing has been confirmed yet, this report is far from just speculation.

Reportedly, there have already been several talks between Todt and John Elkann.

The report reads, “Jean Todt could return to Ferrari in 2022. His mandate as president of the FIA expires on Dec 17, he expressed an unexpected idea to Elkann: to return to Ferrari. The two have talked about it several times in recent months after a first contact at Le Mans this August.”

The initial expectations, as mentioned above, are of the rule of a super-consultant. This will help Ferrari’s sporting-political strength considering the stature and experience Todt holds. And this is also more likely because of the ‘excellent relationship’ between Todt and Ferrari Team Principal, Mattia Binotto.

With Jean Todt, Ferrari reached incredible heights

Todt was appointed as the General Manager for the Italian team in 1993. And it was Todt who was the key in the team from Maranello, completing the biggest signing of their history, that of Michael Schumacher.

And after a few seasons of ‘finding his feet’, the German began one of the greatest eras of dominance in the history of the sport. From 2000 to 2004, the Italian team won five double championships in a row, with Todt pulling the strings and Schumacher pushing the pedals.
