Alpine’s reserve driver Oscar Piastri might drive for Williams F1! Many rate him very highly and consider him as a future world champion. Piastri’s brilliant CV has given all the more reason to back his rumors of being very talented. A consecutive winner of different championships, he needs a chance in Formula 1.

The Australian, however, is a little late to the party. He did not get an immediate debut with Alpine F1, given the team’s belief in two-time world champion Fernando Alonso. The Spaniard has performed well for the team despite being unlucky on a number of occasions. It is understandable and likely the French team will want to keep Alonso.

However, they also do not want to lose out on a talent like Piastri. Hence, Alpine might loan out the 21-year-old to Williams F1, who will replace their driver Nicholas Latifi. Williams has carved out a similar deal with Red Bull who, though, gave away Alex Albon, still maintains links with him and can bring him back.

Piastri was in agreement with Alpine to race in F1 for 2023. In the meantime, he happily acted as the team’s reserve driver, but still does not have a deal in his hands. Though he remains in contract with Alpine for next year, a release clause will allow him to make his debut with Williams. They might announce the move at the British Grand Prix (end of June).

And, Piastri will most likely partner with Alex Albon. However, this will be on a short-term basis given Alpine wants Piastri eventually racing for them at some point. Whether this will be a mid-season swap or not remains under wraps.

Nicholas Latifi has disappointed many with his performances. His 2022 season has not been the best, and the Canadian has caused major expenses to the British team after avoidable crashes. It was only a matter of time before Latifi’s position on the team was reevaluated.

The driver bought in some major funding with him, including his father helping out the team with debts. However, his contract will most likely not stretch beyond the third season, especially with debutante Albon finishing in points while Latifi struggles with the car.
