As per sources, FIA has held discussions with two venues to replace the F1 Russian Grand Prix this year. The Russian Grand Prix was scheduled to be held from 22 to 25 September 2022. However, with the ongoing situation in Ukraine, the FIA has taken strict action and removed the race from this season’s calendar.

The two venues which are likely to host are Qatar and Bahrain. The two countries are already part of the calendar for the 2022 season but might be home to an additional Grand Prix. Moreover, Bahrain is the home for the season opener of the 2022 F1 season. In 2020, the venue was host to two races with the Bahrain GP and the Sakhir GP.

The Russian Grand Prix was set to move to Igora Drive by 2023. However, the FIA has terminated the contract to host future races in Russia. The statement read: “Formula One can confirm it has terminated its contract with the Russian Grand Prix promoter meaning Russia will not have a race in the future.”

Alongside this, the rise in global tension has also led the only American team, Haas, to not only drop their Russian title sponsor, Uralkali but also their Russian driver, Nikita Mazepin.

With the Russian GP removed, the current race calendar holds 22 races. And the updated 2022 F1 schedule is as follows:
