The twists keep on coming in the 2021 season. The defending champions Mercedes had protested the race result on two accounts. The first one was that Max Verstappen had overtaken under the safety car. The one was asking the stewards had allowed lapped cars to overtake after they had initially stated that lapped cars would not overtake. But the FIA dismissed both their protests.
Mercedes had lodged an intention to appeal after FIA rejected both their protests. This gave them 72 hours to collect evidence to support their claim and take this to court.

Mercedes to withdraw their appeal for the final race in Abu Dhabi
But according to the Times (via GP Blog), it looks like Mercedes are going to withdraw their appeal. The latest development would mean that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen will be confirmed as the 2021 world champion.
The reason for their withdrawal is not clear and they are yet to put out an official statement. After losing both their protests, they put out an official statement expressing their intent to appeal the decision of the stewards.

The protest and appeal did not really sit well with the Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko and he called the German team sore losers.
“It’s unworthy of a World Championship final that the decision is delayed like that. But that speaks in favor of the attitude of an, I would say, unworthy loser if you lodge such objections and protests.
We broke their seven-year dominance with a young guy and a young, motivated team. It’s disgusting what they did after the race to protest when it was clear it would not work. This is a very bad loser for me.” said Marko.
