After 13 years as the President of the FIA, Jean Todt recently gave up his commanding role to former rally driver, Mohammed Ben Sulayem. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that the Frenchman will step out of Formula 1 altogether.

Reports have claimed that Ferrari is keen on the return of their former team principal for a more prominent role; one that will not only keep him involved in F1 but also activities surrounding the road cars.

Ferrari set to announce the return of Todt?

For a while now, the Maranello outfit has been quite busy making some big announcements, including the return of former title sponsor, Santander, as a replacement for the PMI-led Mission Winnow. Now, according to Joe Saward, another massive Ferrari announcement is in the offing.

The F1 reporter reckoned that Ferrari will soon announce the signing of the ex-FIA president for the ‘super-consultant’ role.

It is more likely that Ferrari will be in the spotlight when it announces that former FIA President Jean Todt will return to Maranello is some sort of super-consultant role, which will involve both the racing team and the car company. Expect to see Jean appearing at races in 2022…” he wrote on his blog.

Will Todt be of any use to Maranello?

Todt led the FIA for 13 years and is certain to have gained a load of experience and knowledge from a different perspective. Moreover, his history with Ferrari is a huge positive as well; Todt is one of the few Ferrari executives to have witnessed the glory of Michael Schumacher.

Hence, the return of Todt could well bring back the positive vibe into the team. After all, Ferrari are the leading constructors’ champions, and it is at the very top that they belong; competing for podiums and race wins.
