In light of these developments, Ho-Pin Tung commends Max Verstappen for steadfastly focusing on his performance and not allowing controversies to impede his dedication to the team.

During an interview, a Red Bull driver was asked about the ongoing turmoil at the team involving Christian Horner, advisor Dr Helmut Marko, and his future. However, the reigning world champion remains unfazed by these circumstances. Reflecting on this, Ho-Pin Tung expresses admiration, noting to F1maximaal.nl, “We have often seen that Verstappen’s sporting performance is not affected at all by noise or other matters,”  He added, “It is of course disturbing that he is constantly asked about it and is more or less forced to take a position. But at the same time that is also understandable.”

Back then, when the Dutchman made his debut with full determination at the tender age of 17, facing the daunting pressure of competing against seasoned drivers like Kimi Räikkönen. Nonetheless, he showcased remarkable resilience, clinching his first Grand Prix victory. Despite internal unrest within the Red Bull team, the drivers’ performances remained unshakable amidst swirling distractions.

However, Tung expressed concerns: “Formula 1 is a sport with a huge amount of media attention, in which the commercial interests are great. In addition, the situation could be a long-term threat to the stability within the team and therefore to his position. Because ultimately something like this affects the car and the team’s sporting performance”. To sum up, such controversies may not impact the star driver’s exceptional performance, but the situation can influence the team.

Over the years, Horner and Marko had clashed on how to run the team, reaching a boiling point where the team director even attempted to dismiss Marko. However, Max Verstappen’s contract was one crucial factor that prevented his departure. Following these discussions, Marko ultimately announces his decision to remain with the team, signaling a resolution to his future uncertainty. The reigning world champion has committed to Red Bull until 2028, with a clause stipulating his departure if Helmut Marko exits the team. Following rumors of the Dutchman’s potential move to Mercedes after the Bahrain Grand Prix, Marko said he wouldn’t hinder Verstappen’s aspirations, underscoring his support for the champion’s dreams.
