Max Verstappen was one of the most exciting rookies back in the day. While his stupendous rise to becoming world champion has been noteworthy, there are several other talents coming from the feeder series. The latest rookie to join the F1 grid for 2023 will be Logan Sargeant for Williams.

Logan Sargeant has been the name on the F2 circuit, making a lot of buzz. While the buzz is like what Max Verstappen had back in the day in 2014-15, the American has spent a lot more years in the feeder series than Max.
As Sargeant is on the verge of making his debut in F1 in 2023, the Dutchman has given him some advice. Max addressed how Logan does not need to worry about certain aspects in his rookie season.
Talking to the American NBC, Verstappen said, “Above all, you have to enjoy it [your F1 debut]. He will soon be part of a team [Williams] where he [Logan Sargeant] will not immediately compete for [race] victories, but that is actually good.” [translated via Google]
“In the first year, you don’t need that and maybe you shouldn’t even want it. Everyone wants to win, but it’s not a requirement if you barely have any experience.”
Back in the day, Red Bull‘s Wonder Boy Verstappen was in a similar position as Sargeant. He related how his rookie season at Toro Rosso (now Alpha Tauri) helped him a lot to learn different things.
Sargeant will also know that Williams may not offer him a car to fight higher in the midfield. So he will have to maximize his learnings, as he expects a daunting challenge with the Williams FW45 car in 2023.
Can Logan Sargeant pull off a stunning rookie season like Max Verstappen in 2015?
Looking at the current Williams car and how it performed in the 2022 season, Sargeant may not expect it to change drastically. Alex Albon, who stays retained at the Grove-based team, scored only 4 points despite out-driving the car frequently.
The Florida man would want to take insights from Albon to improve his driving abilities and perhaps score some points in his debut season. Although if Williams can provide a better consistent car, can we expect Sargeant to do what Verstappen did in 2015?

The 2015 Toro Rosso car wasn’t great at getting to podiums or the top 5. Yet Verstappen scored 49 points in the season, with a couple of 4th place finishes in Hungary and the USA. He outscored his teammate Carlos Sainz by substantially as the Spaniard just got 18 points.
For rookies, it may not matter to finish every race in the points on a lower-placed team. Bad reliability and consistency of the cars often plague drivers . So Sargeant will want to maximize his chances whenever he is in a good position to score an amazing result.
