There is no friendship out there. When you race, you have to fight. Max Verstappen is Red Bull’s No.1 driver and the favorite to win the championship. Sergio Perez has always been considered the second driver. For the past 2 years, the Mexican minister of defense has played a vital role in Max’s title charge. However, with this being his last year with Red Bull as per his current contract, Checo surely does have some other ideas in his mind. The Red Bull side of the paddock has started heating up as the two drivers aren’t seeing eye to eye.
Perez won the Saudi Arabian GP, finishing ahead of Verstappen. Despite being asked by the team to reduce the pace to 1:33:00 during the final laps of the GP, both drivers kept pushing for the fastest lap, not giving any advantage to the other whatsoever. Eventually, it was Max who got the fastest lap, which led to him leading the championship. The sparks and the fierce rivalry brewing could be sensed across the TV screen. Max went as far as saying that he was not here to finish second so he was not happy.
Checo has made it very clear both to his team and his teammate that he is here to win. The Mexican refused to drop pace when Max was only about 4 seconds behind him, questioning the team as to why he needed to drop the pace to a charging Max. He later mentioned in his tweet that he is ready to push harder and wants to be the world champion.

According to abc.net.au, Sergio Perez tweeted “It was tougher than I thought, but in the end I’m happy to get my fifth victory in F1. Very happy with the result of the team. We are going to keep pushing very hard, I want to be champion.”
Sergio went on to delete this tweet and upload it again, but with the ” I want to be champion” part missing. Max still is the No.1 title contender this year. But after Sergio’s attitude and comments, things are surely going to get engaging moving forward. Whether Checo will pose a serious threat to Max is yet to be confirmed in the upcoming races.

If trends are anything to go by, then it’s hard to believe that Checo will come out on top. Perez always starts off the season very strong as he is good at street circuits and of course Bahrain, where he won his first-ever race. However, as the season goes on, Perez is out qualified and outpaced by Max. In the end, Perez does not have the ruthlessness and speed that Max possesses. Red Bull would also like to keep things under control and would not let things go haywire between the two, in case there is competition.
As per express.co.uk, Damon Hill Said “I’m sure they will, but I think they would prefer Max to win,” he explained. “And I think Max will ultimately prevail. I just don’t think Checo has the ultimate speed and ruthlessness that Max does, and the commitment to being quick.”
