Kimi Raikkonen has had a long career in Formula One. The Finn had the opportunity to drive for several teams on the grid ranging from Sauber, McLaren, Lotus, Ferrari & Alfa Romeo. However, the Team Principal of Red Bull, Christian Horner revealed that they were looking to bring Raikkonen in 2014.

But, instead of putting pen to paper with the Milton-Keynes-based outfit, Raikkonen signed for Ferrari. While, Red Bull got in Daniel Ricciardo from their sister team, Toro Rosso.

Kimi Raikkonen could have been at Red Bull alongside Sebastian Vettel

When Mark Webber left the team, the Raging Bulls were looking to bring in the Iceman. However, after having numerous talks, they couldn’t come to a conclusion. Hence, the F1 community was deprived of having Vettel and Raikkonen as teammates back in 2014.

As quoted from Motorsport. total.com, Horner said, “We had a few talks with Kimi when it came to who should replace Mark Webber.”

The Iceman was involved in the World Rally Championship. Horner added, “Kimi had a relationship with Red Bull during his time as a rally driver.” (Translated from German via Google)

Raikkonen’s last season in Formula One

The 2021 F1 season would be Raikkonen‘s last year on the grid. Currently, with Alfa Romeo, the 41-year-old would aim to end his season on a high. However, so far it hasn’t gone his way, and hopes to find his form, and help his Swiss-based team get ahead in the constructor’s standings.

As of now, Raikkonen finds himself in seventeenth place with just two points under his belt. With him missing the Dutch Grand Prix due to having contracted Covid-19, and possibly missing the race at Monza. Raikkonen would hope to get behind the wheel and seize some points for Alfa Romeo.
