Sympathy and gloating are two words that never go well together. The Red Bull taskmaster is generally associated with the latter. However, he recently displayed his sympathetic side, making it confusing for many to understand why exactly he did it. As the Red Bull boss boasts about Red Bull’s resurgence to the front of the Grid, he refuses to gloat about it and show sympathy towards the once-dominant Mercedes.
Mercedes’ has been falling down the ladder ever since the introduction of ground-effect cars. Toto Wolff and Co. dominated the Turbo-Hybrid era for 8 years, leaving Red Bull at the mercy of the 2022 rule changes. However, Red Bull and Adrian Newey took full advantage of the changes and produced the dominant RB18 and RB19. With the pace that Red Bull has shown, it doesn’t look like any team can catch up before the major changes planned for 2026.
The utter dominance gives Red Bull the full right to boast it to Mercedes. Helmut Marko, however, sympathizes with the German team. Instead of taking revenge for Mercedes’ dominance, the taskmaster suggests he understands how the Silver Arrows must be feeling.

According to Marko, Red Bull felt the same 7 years ago when Mercedes did it to them. Hence, he has refrained from gloating about it. However, Marko suggested it doesn’t really matter where everyone else is as long as Red Bull is in front.
According to F1 Maximaal.nl, Helmut Marko said “I know how Toto Wolff feels now, we also had seven years ago. That’s why there’s no gloating.” Marko further emphasized Red Bull’s performance by adding, “I don’t care who’s in which place either. Most importantly, we are first.”
The decision to not gloat does not take away from the brilliant job that Red Bull has done. Many teams already take inspiration from Red Bull and have gone as far as to poach their engineers. Aston Martin signed Dan Fallows from Red Bull and jumped to 2nd in the constructors. With Mercedes announcing a major change in the car upcoming, Helmut Marko suggests he wouldn’t be surprised if the W14 looks a lot like the RB19.

The Red Bull boss suggested that copying is a very common thing in F1. We’ve already seen the field narrowing down to 3 design philosophies this year. Marko explained how there’s nothing dishonorable about learning from the best and accepting failure.
According to F1maximaal.com, Helmut Marko said, “Copy is part of everyday life in Formula 1. There is nothing dishonorable about that. It’s about having the fastest car possible and celebrating successes. You don’t accept years of failure just because you’re too proud to admit that others have done better.”
