On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the oldest Red Bull member decided to converse with the media. The theme of the discussions was based on the current Red Bull family upheaval. Recently, Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri announced their team principal Franz Tost will be vacating his post after the current season. The change in AlphaTauri’s hierarchy comes after 18 long years. This brought on questions about Helmut Marko’s future with the Austrian team as well. This is when the Austrian revealed his future plans influenced by Max Verstappen.

Marko is a huge fan of Verstappen which he has expressed on multiple occasions, especially after the record-breaking season. This fanaticism is the reason Helmut based his future plans on Verstappen’s involvement with the team. He revealed that in a conversation with the media as quoted by Motorsport-Total and revealed by a trustworthy source.

“I’m not thinking of retiring and I’m also not aware that others want that. I still enjoy my work, precisely because it’s a special circumstance to work with a gifted driver like Max Verstappen to be able to,” revealed Marko.

The follow-up question was also about his replacement. A replacement that many would want to see, such is the likeability factor and history of the entity with the team.

The entity? The beloved German four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel. However, Marko has his doubts.

Helmut Marko is doubtful of Sebastian Vettel’s involvement with the team as a mentor

Sebastian Vettel shocked the world of F1 when he announced his retirement at the end of the 2022 season. The German won back-to-back championships for Red Bull. However, after separating from the Red Bull family, Vettel never found the level of success he had to potential for.

This scenario could change as there were rumors Vettel might join Red Bull again as an advisor/mentor replacing Helmut Marko. However, Marko isn’t aware of such a scenario coming to pass anytime soon.

He said, “I think Sebastian is currently in a discovery phase in which he has to decide for himself where his path will lead.” Marko also revealed he is “not aware that Sebastian could currently play a role in our future planning.”
