Max Verstappen’s winning streak ended and it was with no fault of his own. During the Australian Grand Prix, the Dutchman had some technical difficulties that led him to retire from the race. This was the first time Verstappen had retired from a race since 2 years ago at the same venue. But that does not change the fact that he is currently the best driver on the grid.
Despite Verstappen not finishing the race, he is still at the top of the pecking order. However, in a sport with 2 teammates, it feels like he is carrying the team alone. Upon noticing the performance of the team without Verstappen, Marc Priestly came forth to talk about his views on Red Bull.

On the latest episode of the Chequered Flag podcast, Marc Priestly discussed the events of the Australian Grand Prix, and of course, the topic went to Max Verstappen’s car malfunctioning. According to the former McLaren engineer, the team highly relies on Verstappen to lead the way to victory.
While discussing the team’s dynamic, Priestly said, “If you are Red Bull and you haven’t got Max Verstappen, what do you even have?” This comment was made only because when Verstappen retired from the race, Sergio Perez who drives the mighty RB20, was overtaken by both Ferrari and McLaren drivers.
All the teams are catching up with Red Bull and according to Priestly, Checo is not doing enough to bring in the points the team needs. Currently, Charles Leclerc is very close to Max Verstappen in terms of points, and even one race can change the outcome of the championship.
But that being said, Max Verstappen didn’t score points only due to the defect in the car. Now, with all this talk about his RB20 giving up, what exactly happened to the car?

Max Verstappen experienced a major issue with his car during the Formula One race at Albert Park circuit. As he entered the pit lane, his car exploded, causing surprise and concern among the team members. The issue seemed to be related to the brakes, specifically a brake caliper seizing on, causing the pads to constantly clamp on the disc.
This led to extremely high temperatures, potentially exceeding the normal operating range by several hundred degrees. Consequently, the tire likely exploded due to intense heat and pressure buildup. This technical failure forced Verstappen to retire from the race prematurely, which was an unusual occurrence for him and his team.
