The king of street circuits, Sergio Perez, has produced the goods yet again. We saw him win in at Baku in 2021 as well as in the Principality of Monaco this year. Now the Mexican has done it again at Marina Bay. In a race that ebbed and flowed, Sergio remained exceptionally calm and composed.

On a day when even the best crumbled, he rose to the occasion to win his 2nd Grand Prix of the season. While Sergio had a great start to the race, his teammate Max Verstappen was extremely slow off the blocks. Checo got his elbows out and snatched P1 from the pole sitter, Charles Leclerc, going into the first corner.

The Monegasque driver threw everything at him but Sergio Perez fought through adversity to claim a stunning victory. But it’s still not done yet as FIA is deliberating over a possible safety car infringement by the Mexican. This can hand him a 10-second time penalty.

Christian Horner has come out to defend his driver after the speculations. Red Bull’s Team Principal, talking about the issue, said, “For me, it is a non-issue. It will be hugely harsh to penalize him for that. That’s why we kept the hammer down at the end. Honestly, I’ll be amazed if there’s an issue.”

“There is so many precedents. We could probably pull out a 100 of them over the last 10 years. So, you know, I’ll be absolutely flabbergasted if that went any further,” Horner added.

The Dutchman had a race to forget at Marina Bay. Max had a terrible start to the race, but was able to slowly move up the grid. Later, an uncharacteristic mistake pushed him down the grid. From there on, it was damage limitation for the reigning world champion.

Max Verstappen, talking after the race, said“It starts yesterday, of course, because that puts you in the middle of the pack. If you then also have a bad start then everything seems to go against you. It’s better to forget this race and move on to Japan.”
