It’s funny, isn’t it how a lot of people that earn millions of dollars manage to pay lesser taxes than those earning in hundreds of thousands or even thousands? Formula 1 drivers are the ones who not-so-surprisingly fall in the millionaire category. Despite that, some of them pay next-to-no taxes. How is that? Let Max Verstappen and other drivers’ examples lead the way for the answer to this question.

As a sport, F1 is taking strides in combating a lot of social issues and progressing with the times. However, there are areas where it lags behind. For instance, using male pronouns in the rule books instead of gender-neutral ones. But another problem that plagues not the sport itself but some of the related stakeholders is that of tax evasion by the drivers. Just to give you a perspective, Verstappen was accused of evading $200 million in taxes from the Dutch government by relocating to the tax haven that Monaco is, like a few of his F1 peers.

In the latest episode of the ‘Donut Racing Show’ F1 podcast, hosts Alanis, Elizabeth, and special guest, motorsport streamer, Ash Vandaley, discussed the Italian GP. But right before that, they interestingly spoke about how even the Monaco jail has special sea-facing cells. The hosts even pondered on how they could make it inside the jail so that they could enjoy the view from the Principality.

The host said, “Can we get a little gang together and all get arrested in Monaco? Do we speed? Do we do tax evasion?” As soon as she asked the 2nd question, Ash Vandelay interjected to say: No, they are all doing tax evasion. No one’s going to jail for tax evasion in Monaco.”

Say whatever you want about him, but Verstappen doesn’t care. He is in the golden period of his career at the age of 25 and nothing can steal that away from him.

Max Verstappen created history at Monza by winning his 10th consecutive race in 2023 and dethroning Sebastian Vettel and Alberto Ascari. The entire Red Bull camp was ecstatic and this milestone probably cannot be replicated in the future. Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle highlighted the same, lauding them for their consistency.

Brundle wrote for Sky Sports: “For Max Verstappen to win 10 consecutive races, along with Red Bull taking all 14 races so far this season, it’s truly something to behold. What an achievement to faultlessly keep up that level of performance and reliability on many different track layouts and in varying weather conditions, up against mighty opposition.”
