Despite the lack of communication and appreciation toward one’s family, there is always a sense of gratitude in everyone. This previous statement does not exclude our drivers, especially because of the sacrifices a family to get their kids F1-ready. Max Verstappen is among many who oozes family values thanks to the involvement of his father in his life. However, this does not make the Dutch champ appreciate the rest of his family less. It probably made him appreciate them more as we all know Jos Verstappen was a little strict toward Max during his upbringing. In fact, this is what the Dutchman showcased during the Dutch GP post-race celebrations.

During the post-race celebration, an ecstatic Verstappen obviously celebrated on his car and with his team. The record-equalling race win was a massive feat in the young Dutchman’s career. However, after the excitement mellowed down, Verstappen spotted his family and his girlfriend and went to greet them.

Like most things in Formula 1, this moment was also captured by the lingering cameras. F1’s official Instagram account posted the wholesome video of Verstappen being greeted by his mother, sister, and girlfriend.

Verstappen’s social media influencer sister posted the same video on her story with a simple yet powerful message. The message read, “When family is so important.”

We just love to see such wholesome moments that we don’t generally come across in the hustle of F1. However once we dive deep, we realize Verstappen’s mother sacrificed equally for the men of the Verstappen family as much as Jos Verstappen did.

Sophie Kumpen, mother of Max Verstappen reveals how she sacrificed her dreams to fulfill that of the Verstappen men

Sophie Kumpen was a budding karting racer who started her career aged 10. Verstappen’s mother dreamt of racing in the premier class. By the time she turned 21, she had to make a choice after doing exceptionally well in karting. She chose Jos Verstappen over her dream. However, after marrying Jos Verstappen, Sophie Kumpen did not sit ideally, she devoted her life to making an incredible raceer out of her husband and then son. Safe to say, her efforts have paid off.

She said “I wanted to go to F1, I’ve tested some race cars, then I married Max’s dad and I had to make a choice… He was driving F1, in that time we were a way so much. So, I gave up my dream but now I see my son realizing what I ever wanted to do and I enjoy it as much!”

Not just paid off, they’re bearing exceptionally ripe fruit with her son becoming the most successful Dutch F1 driver of all time. So Max coming up to his mother and hugging her should not come as a surprise.
