Earlier this season, Christian Horner joked that he had blocked Toto Wolff’s number on his mobile. The rivalry between the Mercedes and Red Bull Team Principal is as aggressive as Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. The F1 season is done and dusted for Red Bull. However, that didn’t stop Horner from taking a dig at Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton.
Christian Horner advised on how the seven-time world Champion contacted him earlier this year to inquire about the Red Bull seat. Toto Wolff earlier this week took a jab at Red Bull when he suggested that F1 will be having a proper race director this time around in Abu Dhabi. While Hamilton played the uno reverse on Horner to advise that it was the Red Bull TP that contacted him, Max Verstappen took the chill pill to give a graceful reply. Toto Wolff however isn’t one to back down from a fight with Christian Horner and aggravated the Horner-Hamilton Saga.

It was difficult to imagine a situation where the Christian Horner-Lewis Hamilton saga would end without comments from Max Verstappen and Toto Wolff. While Verstappen did make some comments, it was generally to avoid adding any spice to the storyline and remained neutral on his side. When David Croft asked the Dutchman about a situation where Hamilton was his teammate, Max refused to answer.
It was only after multiple tries from Croft’s side that Verstappen suggested that he wouldn’t mind Hamilton as his teammate. But also that it doesn’t matter. Toto Wolff on the other hand went on a completely different arc and advised as to how he doesn’t understand how Christian Horner comes up with such comments. He asked the Red Bull Boss to be happy with the championship and keep away from making such accusations.
During an interview with PlanetF1, Toto Wolff said, “I just don’t know what drives the guy. We don’t understand his thinking to come up with these things. What happened is that Christian, through an agency that we work with, wanted to have his contact details to speak about the seat.” Toto further added, “I don’t know what drives him to come out with this. You’ve won the season. Be happy about it, [be] humble. Enjoy it.” The Austrian concluded by saying, “I just wonder what’s going on up there.”

This back-and-forth between Horner and Wolff is nothing new and is always expected when one makes comments about the other or his team. Toto Wolff even commented on what he feels about his rivalry with Horner.

Remember Toto Wolff’s comments when Max Verstappen broke the record for most consecutive wins? Wolff suggested that it’s just a stat for the Wikipedia page. It was then followed by a backlash from Horner, Verstappen, and Marko with multiple to-and-fro comments. The same is the case with Horner’s current comments about Hamilton. However, this too and fro seems to be a regular pattern between Red Bull and Mercedes.
When asked about whether Wolff gets any enjoyment out of his rivalry with Horner, Wolff said, “Not Rivalry, I believe in enemy building and in looking at people that motivate you, annoy you, that you want to beat. I encourage everybody in the company to find out who that is, in the other teams. Spend some time on LinkedIn. See who it is.”
