Everyone often debates about how well a Formula 1 car will fare against cars against what we see on the roads. We’re not talking about your average road cars. We’re talking about hypercars that are one of the fastest in the world. However, now we have a video pitting road cars against an iconic F1 challenger.

Out of sight, but not out of mind, Liam Lawson was chosen to represent the circus. The Kiwi got to prove F1 cars’ mettle using the championship-winning Red Bull RB8 of Sebastian Vettel to settle this debate against one of the fastest road cars on the planet.

The 21-year-old got his taste of F1 filling in at AlphaTauri. However, despite his borrowed time coming to an end the F1 hopeful got another opportunity to drive an F1 car and like his stint in the premier class, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. In a video posted on CarWow’s YouTube page, we see a Porsche 918 Spyder, a Bugatti Veyron, and Vettel’s 2012 RB8, or Abbey, as he liked to call it, go head to head.

Bugatti Veyron has been known to be one of the fastest cars in the world, although the 918 Spyder was head and shoulders above the old guard in the drag race. However, when it came to competing with Abbey, Lawson put the combined $2.8 million hypercars to shame.

The Kiwi got the beating of both the cars on all three occasions even if his start wasn’t as good as the Porsche’s. The German team’s car did put up a close fight to the 2012 championship-winning F1 challenger. A sign of time to come in Formula 1?
