Formula 1 is a demanding sport however you look at it. Once the season starts, the drivers and team personnel have to travel from country to country, continent to continent every other week or so, and are expected to perform at the highest level every single time. And with the number of races going up every year like it has been in the past few years, there comes a time when it’s just not feasible anymore. The 2024 season already has 24 races lined up on the calendar and Formula 1 is pushing for more races in the future. And the drivers are not happy about it at all. Max Verstappen has already been vocal that his life doesn’t revolve around Formula 1 and he would rather quit than keep up with the ever-increasing demands of the sport. And now others are joining him to put a stop to the growing F1 calendar.

According to a recent tweet from Autosport, Carlos Sainz spoke about the busy schedule of Formula 1 saying, “I think we’re already at the limit for the number of races that team personnel, drivers, etc can take during a year if you want to have a family back home you want to see. I think F1 is risking becoming too constant and losing the appetite for people watching on TV.”

Max Verstappen doubled down in his stance saying, “I feel we are way over the limit on [the amount of] races…this is not sustainable.”

Fernando Alonso, who recently claimed that he feels like he can race in F1 till he’s 50 also made his stance clear. “Even the World Champion thinks [the F1 calendar] it’s a little bit long…imagine the rest of us! I need to decide if I want to keep racing. That will be the first thing I need to decide in a few races time. I feel great now, but I know it’s a demanding calendar and in 2026 there are a different set of regulations.”
