On February 5, Red Bull confirmed that they were investigating Christian Horner for alleged ‘inappropriate behavior’. Within Red Bull and the F1 paddock, it caused havoc. But this unfortunate situation for Horner meant that Netflix’s Drive to Survive viewership would boom. Though Season 6 couldn’t show anything about the controversy, its inclusion in Season 7 has gotten a definitive declaration.

Netflix and Drive to Survive film producers seem very smart at marketing. In episode 2, set at the Horner household in Oxfordshire during Christmas, a surprise Santa visit is innocently placed. “Has Dad been good this year?”, Santa asks Horner and wife Geri Halliwell’s kids. On its own, the clip is a soft addition, juxtaposing the hyperactive F1 world. But with the investigation in the backdrop (that began 3 weeks before the season premiered), it highlights the major irony. But the question remains. Will Season 7, in 2025, feature the investigation details?

It’ll have to be referenced in some capacity, yeah,” Producer James Gay-Rees confirmed to The Telegraph. “And they will all want it to be told in a particular way. So it’s about treading that line to keep everybody happy and to keep Netflix happy, and us, so we can sleep at night with the decisions we’ve made. You have to have balance.”

He then dived deeper into the Red Bull investigation, saying, “I think Horner is looking okay for the time being but it doesn’t feel like it’s done yet. It will all depend on how it plays out. I don’t know what he got up to and I genuinely have an opinion on it but he’s been through it and you wouldn’t wish that on anybody.”

While he sympathizes with the Austrian, Gay-Rees believes that the investigation might not be over yet. And there might be some truth to that opinion.

A couple of weeks ago, the independent Red Bull investigation was concluded. Red Bull eventually dismissed the accuser’s plea and Christian Horner was cleared of wrongdoing. Soon after, she was suspended. A few days after the suspension news came out, the accuser made an official complaint with the FIA Ethics Committee.

As per ‘The Independent’, the employee is said to be seeking a return to the Milton Keynes outfit. They also reported that Horner’s accuser is “in it for the long haul”. For now, the case may seem dormant. But how it pans out in the near future remains to be seen.

If Drive to Survive gets the green light to cover certain aspects of the investigation, only then will fans get to know more about it.
