In a season that has seen Red Bull’s relentless dominance in Formula 1, Christian Horner has rubbed salt in Toto Wolff’s wounds. How? The outspoken team principal openly poked fun at Mercedes! 2023 saw Red Bull clinching its third consecutive title in a season marked by triumph after triumph. In light of this, Horner seized the moment to not only mock Mercedes but also take a playful jab at all of Red Bull’s competitors, hoping to dethrone the unstoppable Max Verstappen.

Red Bull and Max Verstappen have redefined what it means to dominate in a sport as competitive as Formula 1. The 2023 season witnessed Red Bull winning all but one race. George Russell’s exceptional victory in the 2022 Brazilian Grand Prix and Carlos Sainz’s recent success in Singapore were mere blips in the Milton-Keynes squad’s remarkable run, starting with the French Grand Prix in July last year. Since then, F1 has become Red Bull’s circus, and now, Horner has made everyone else clowns.

2023 left little room for doubt about which team and driver would emerge victorious every time F1 hit the track. Max Verstappen and Red Bull were near-invincible, with the RB19 making a mockery of every other car on the grid. Considering that, a second-consecutive championship double was almost inevitable. But the sport’s enduring appeal hinges on unpredictability, and questions arise about Formula 1’s future if such on-track predictability persists.

Toto Wolff, Mercedes’ team principal, admitted the monumental task ahead for the team, which is to challenge Verstappen’s Red Bull in 2024. Despite clinging to second place in the Constructors’ Championship, Mercedes found itself at the receiving end of Christian Horner’s sharp wit in the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Known for his candid remarks and humorous take on rival teams, Christian Horner recently shared an F1 parody clip on his Instagram account, crafted by @conor_sketches. Known for their hilarious mimicry of F1 drivers and team personnel, @conor_sketches’ latest creation was no different. The clip not only teased Mercedes but took a lighthearted dig at all teams aspiring to disrupt Max Verstappen’s dominance. In his Instagram caption, Horner added a touch of wit as he wrote, “What a great way to wrap up the season @conor_sketches 😂🎶.”

As if it was not enough to make fun of his rivals, Christian Horner criticized Charles Leclerc for doing just “half the job” in Abu Dhabi, allowing Mercedes to secure second place in the Constructors’ Championship.

During the season finale in Abu Dhabi, Leclerc strategically allowed Sergio Perez an easy pass for P2. Considering the Mexican had a five-second penalty, Leclerc was counting on Perez to create a significant gap to George Russell. Horner wasn’t impressed with the execution. Horner expressed his views on The Race: “They only half-did the job! They let Checo through, but – as Checo has demonstrated before in that part of the circuit – you can hold up someone by quite a bit of time there. Charles needed to hold off George a little more to get that extra second.

Horner drew parallels with Perez’s successful tactics in the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where the deliberate slowdown played a pivotal role in Max Verstappen clinching the Drivers’ title. While the move worked wonders for Red Bull in 2021, the same strategy failed to materialize into success for Charles Leclerc and Ferrari. With George Russell finishing just a second ahead of the required time, Mercedes secured the second spot in the Constructors’ Championship, leaving Ferrari contemplating what might have been.
