Earlier in the current F1 season, Lewis Hamilton’s home race faced a threat after the protests that happened in 2022 at Silverstone. Extra security was ensured this time around to not have a repeat of the same. Now just a week before the Dutch GP, authorities have made 10 arrests as Max Verstappen’s home race faces the threat of being canceled or at the least, being interrupted. Why were these arrests made?

The world that we all are living in is getting worse every day. As a step towards making the world a better place, F1 has introduced the Net Zero 2030 initiative, which will slash the emissions caused by the F1 season by 50%, and plans on leaving a zero carbon footprint. Yet the climate activists choose the Grand Prix circuits to protest against various issues that are deteriorating our atmosphere and earth.

Yesterday, news broke out that the protesters, specifically the Extinction Rebellion, had taken to the Zandvoort Circuit and blocked the entrance as they protested. It caused an inconvenience to the logistics as preparations for the Dutch GP happening next weekend have already begun. Nonetheless, Max Verstappen can now take a sigh of relief as the responsible authorities have taken action.

According to @RBR_Daily’s tweet, it is advised the police have taken action against the protesters at Zandvoort and arrested 10 people for the same. Sources suggest that the protesters were provided with a designated area for their protest. However, they still decided to obstruct the access to the circuit by protesting near the access roads, which wasn’t among the designated area. After the grace period provided to the protesters to move away was over, the police took the necessary actions.

F1 is moving toward 100% sustainable fuel. Sebastian Vettel promoted e-fuels at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Yet some protesters jumped the barriers at the 2022 British GP and ran onto the track on the first lap. However, a red flag caused by Zhou Guanyu’s accident slowed the F1 car considerably before reaching the place where the protesters were. George Russell asked the protesters to not put their and the marshals’ life at risk and to have an open conversation.

According to motorsport.com, George Russell said, “We’re all open and free to cast our views, but doing it on a live F1 track is pretty irresponsible and it shouldn’t be dangerous. Not only [protesters] but drivers and marshals who are potentially running after people.” He then added, “Even open conversations with us before recklessly running onto a circuit when we’re driving past at 200mph.”
