Without even a shadow of a doubt, Helmut Marko is Red Bull‘s PR department’s biggest nightmare! The Austrian taskmaster is as clinical as someone can get when he’s doing his job, but off of it, it’s best to keep a microphone away from the man. While the Bulls stand on the cusp of probably the greatest season ever, for any F1 team, their advisor has been doing the rounds making outrageous statements that would leave the likes of Max Verstappen and Christian Horner red-faced.
As sensational as it sounds, the Milton-Keynes-based outfit has made humility their motto this season. So far, they’ve won each and every race. Naturally, all eyes are on them to make 2023 a whitewash, something no team has managed to do ever before. Team Principal, Christian Horner has always maintained that they don’t take any race for granted. But on the eve of their biggest challenge yet, Marko seems to have downplayed the Bulls’ efforts at containing expectations.

Horner and Verstappen have both taken the stance that they are worried their supreme reign might end. And it might happen in Singapore. The Marina Bay circuit has often been a race of attrition and an acid test for even the greatest teams and drivers. Marko admits that he has a bizarre prophecy that would’ve left Horner squirming in his seat.
On the most recent episode of the ESPN F1 Unlapped podcast, the hosts discussed, “Helmut Marko has recently said, which I think is interesting, “If we win at Singapore, chances are that we can win all the races.””
But Marko’s comments have caught the attention of Nate Saunders and for all the wrong reasons. He said, “It’s actually interesting that he’s admitted that, Marko. Because Red Bull have been very clever about not playing that up, you know they’ve downplayed the unbeaten season as much as possible. Obviously, Marko is a bit of a loose cannon, it’s fair to say. So, I’m not sure if it’s something that Christian Horner would admit to this weekend.”
This isn’t the first headline that Marko’s made this weekend after being embroiled in an unsavory controversy with Sergio Perez. Then why exactly does Red Bull tolerate the man?
Christian Horner reveals the inner workings of Helmut Marko
Helmut Marko is a polarizing figure in the F1 paddock. Yet, the Bulls and Horner have stuck by him. While they do not condone certain words that the Austrian has uttered in the past and now, there’s just something about the man that makes him a valuable asset to the team.

Speedweek.com quoted Horner as saying, “He only says what he thinks. In that respect, he reminds me of Niki Lauda, who was very similar. They both come from the same generation and have the same character. And even at 80 years old, he is out to set sector best times.”
“He still watches every session of the Formula 3 and Formula 2 series, and still checks every split time that the young up-and-coming drivers put up.”
