Sergio Perez and his struggles. When you feel like he’s finally exiting the downward spiral, something new pops up to indicate the continuation of his downfall. Amid all this, Daniel Ricciardo is sitting in a corner, waiting for his chance to pounce on him. And the day might not be far. The Honey Badger has seemingly struck gold owing to his meeting with RB taskmaster Helmut Marko.
No one can deny that the Guadalajara-born racer hasn’t been performing up to expectations. Because denying facts is the mark of a fool. What can also not be denied is the change that Ricciardo has brought about in AlphaTauri within a short period of his signing with them. An added bonus for the Australian is his close relationship with Marko, whom he often meets when he’s in Graz, Austria. However, Marko’s revelations after their most recent meeting have caused a bit of commotion in the media.

Marko told Austrian newspaper Kleine Zeitung, as quoted by FormulaPassion, “His determination and verve gave a real jolt to AlphaTauri. He was a real motivator. Of course, a driver like Ricciardo helps you enormously in this situation. It tells you exactly what works and what doesn’t.”

Elaborating on the driver situation and Ricciardo being possibly swapped in for Perez, Marko said, “In Formula 1 it certainly doesn’t exist 100%. Somewhere there are always performance situations to talk about. In Zandvoort, we will take a look at the situation and discuss how to proceed. Then we will know more.”
One thing is for sure, Marko is a shrewd man and he won’t put personal preferences over professional ones. So, that should be a bit of relief to Perez. And the sigh of relief that he breathes can be a tad longer because his team is completely backing him.
