Ex-Ferrari Boss Stresses over Max Verstappen Breaking “Sacrosanct” Rule without Any Consequences

If it wasn’t abundantly clear already, Max Verstappen showcased his winning mentality once again. Verstappen showcased he takes every race, even if it’s inconsequential as the 2023 Abu Dhabi GP, as seriously as any other race of the year. He proved that with his haste to get on the track during the eventful and shortened FP2 session of the weekend.

However, in doing so, the Red Bull man made some moves and used a part of the track that is otherwise deemed an offense. An offense he otherwise would’ve been punished for, but Verstappen got away with it as stressed by the Ex-Ferrari boss.

The FP2 session was marred by red flags with two crashes during the session. This gave the drivers limited time on the track on Thursday thanks to the FIA rule, which put almost the entire grid in the paddocks during the FP1.

However, during the limited outing in FP2, the frustrated Dutchman rushed to get out on track and broke the “sacrosanct” rule, which he got away with as stressed by Peter Windsor in his latest YouTube video.

“At the second restart after the red flag, he was annoyed that drivers like Lewis Hamilton and others were going relatively slowly out of the pitlane, which, of course, is their entire right to do. Max was passing two or three cars with two wheels over the white line going into the underpass, obviously after the speed limit zone so that wasn’t an issue,” said Windsor.

However, he then highlighted the issue to the best of his knowledge. He added, “It raised a question of whether or not you’re allowed to do that. To my mind, obviously, the white line as the pit lane is rejoining the racetrack, that is sacrosanct. You cannot put a millimeter of a tire over that line.”

Windsor believes the Dutchman will only get a reprimand for setting a bad example and get away with it, a reoccurring theme in the world of F1. However, the ex-Ferrari boss jumped to Verstappen’s defense for his crimes against Leclerc during the Vegas GP.

The cold track favored the red and the king of one lap put some more authority on that title after the late-night qualifying session in Vegas. Charles Leclerc qualified for the pole position, but he also extended his unwanted record of not winning a race after starting from the front to 12. However, he could’ve broken the unwanted streak if he had gotten a clean start, a start that was marred by Verstappen, according to some. Although Windsor does not agree.

Jumping to Verstappen’s defense, he said, “He’d [Max Verstappen] taken the lead at the first corner. I wouldn’t say from the start. He was alongside Charles for a millisecond in the braking area as they went into the first corner, the tight left-hander. And you could just see what Max was doing.”
