We keep him very in the know of everything that’s going on.” While Norris might have the upper hand in the relationship with McLaren at present, his allegiance to the team is not solely transactional. His belief in the long-term project, fortified by recent successes, has rejuvenated his faith in McLaren’s potential.

CEO Zak Brown emphasized the pivotal importance of McLaren’s recent achievements for Norris, particularly leading into the break that concludes with the Dutch Grand Prix on August 27. Brown refuted the notion of “wooing” Norris and stressed that the primary focus is on providing him with a competitive car that instills the confidence needed to vie for a world championship title.

As per ESPN, Brown stated, “I think it’s been massively important for all of us. It shows we can do it. That being said, we haven’t won one with [Norris] yet. He loves McLaren, it’s been his family, so there’s no doubt in my mind his number one choice is to win a world championship with McLaren. I think the best thing we do to retain him is to demonstrate to him we’re a team capable of doing that.”

A significant milestone for McLaren was the inauguration of its long-awaited wind tunnel at its Woking headquarters, marking the end of its reliance on Toyota’s facility in Cologne, Germany. Brown conveyed his optimism about McLaren’s readiness for the forthcoming seasons, indicating that the team now possesses the necessary infrastructure, talent, and financial resources to flourish. With these developments in place, Brown believes that McLaren’s performance trajectory will instill Norris and the entire team with confidence as they enter the next two seasons.
