The Mercedes F1 team doesn’t seem to have overcome the heartbreak of Abu Dhabi. The team believes that controversial decisions from the race committee robbed Lewis Hamilton of his 8th world title. Since then, there have been dark clouds over the Brackley team’s future. Hamilton has been out of the social media glare since Abu Dhabi, and of course, with no certainty over his F1 return.
With Valtteri Bottas leaving the team and chances of Hamilton bowing out of his seat, Mercedes are on the slippery slope. A set of new regulations are in place for the upcoming 2022 season and teams are working hard to find an ideal car. Though many are anticipating a shift in the power dynamics on the grid, Red Bull and Mercedes are still the favorites for the 2022 season.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko recently made a prediction about rival Mercedes and their performance in the upcoming season.

The last time F1 went into a drastic overall was in 2014. Needless to say, Mercedes came out with the best car after that, winning all the titles but one.
Marko predicts strong Mercedes again in 2022 F1 season
Red Bull reignited their dominance in F1 after 7 years. Max Verstappen won the drivers’ title in what fans will remember as one of the best seasons ever. But what made this title special was beating a formidable side that dominated the sport for such a long period. Now, with a major overhaul in rules, many expect Mercedes to be a frontrunner again.

Marko, who has been very critical of the men from Brackley in the past, has made a bold claim in their support. In a recent bit of his interview reported by Motorsport.com, Marko said it would shock him if the team underperforms in 2022. “Nothing is guaranteed but I would be very surprised if Mercedes can’t compete for the title this year.”
This statement carries credibility as it comes from one of the oldest observers of F1 in the paddock. Marko has explored the length and breadth of the sport for the longest of times in different capacities. The teams will soon head to Barcelona for the first days of testing the all-new 2022 cars.
