Fresh from their victory in Singapore, the Red Bull Racing team is in Japan as F1 has arrived in the Land of Rising Sun for the 18th round of the 2022 season. As Friday’s free practice sessions and Saturday’s qualifications are already over, the Red Bulls look strong as usual and are favorites to win the race, with Max Verstappen inches away from claiming the title.

However, a race can not be won without the perfect strategy even after having the fastest car on the track. F1 has seen ample examples of how teams have thrown away their wins with miscalculated strategies. Hannah Schmitz, an expert in the field, unravels minute details of strategies prior to a race week.

In a video shared by Oracle Red Bull Racing’s official Twitter handle, the principal strategy engineer of the team shared her take on the Japanese Grand Prix strategy. Talking about this, Schmitz conveyed, “The weather here can be completely unpredictable here.”

“It’s monsoon season, so anything can happen. One minute can be pouring down the rain, the next minute can be dry.”

As a strategist, we always measure the track… We just like to make sure our pit-lane timings are all quite exact. So we get out there, early in the morning… And measure all the pit lines and all the pit boxes of the teams,” further asserted the strategist.
