Max Verstappen recently signed a multiyear contract with Red Bull but Sergio “Checo” Perez’s contract remains uncertain. Although Perez came second in the driver’s standings getting Red Bull its first one-two positions, Red Bull has not offered him a contract renewal. Checo’s contract will be ending after the 2024 season and now many questions are being raised.

Will Checo retain his seat in Red Bull? Where will he go if Red Bull decides to go with another driver? Jeroen Bleekemolen and Robin Frijns from Formule1 discuss Checo’s future after the 2024 season and according to them, things might not go great for Perez.

Robin Frijns wrote a column in Formule1 where his discussion with Jeroen Bleekemolen was documented as a story. In the discussion, Frijns stated that he thinks Max Verstappen will be far ahead of others in 2024 too. He added, “Every now and then I fish for some information from Sébastien Buemi (his teammate in Formula E at Envision Racing, ed.), who is regularly in the simulator for Red Bull. It seems that they have found something here and there.”

Judging from Bleekemolen’s knowledge, he said, “It can hardly go wrong.” He then expressed that Sergio will have another difficult year being the slower Red Bull car compared to the reigning World Champion. Frijns stated, “I don’t expect Pérez to survive until the end of this year,” explaining how it might feel for Checo to be constantly second in the same car as Verstappen.

But in the end, it looks like Red Bull has not shown any signs of a renewal as of now. They must be waiting to gauge Perez’s performance over the season before making a decision about keeping him around or getting a new driver. That being said, the pressure is on and Perez is setting up for a season that will decide his place in Red Bull. Considering the way Perez looked at the RB20 launch, he looked quite confident with the car as he heads into his 4th year with the team.

He is confident about the season and also stated that it should be another great season for Red Bull. Now all that is left is for Perez to get into the car and test it out in Bahrain on February 29 before he can make his judgment.
