The final race of the season at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was perhaps the most dramatic event in recent Formula One history. Red Bull boss Christian Horner and Toto Wolff of Mercedes were constantly on the radio, trying to manipulate race director Michael Masi to make decisions favorable to their respective teams.

With the 2022 season just a few months away, Dr. Helmut Marko, advisor to the Milton Keynes-based outfit has stated that Wolff and Horner shouldn’t talk to Masi while he is trying to make a decision.

Both team principals were breathing down Masi’s neck during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to make a decision that would favor them. Hence, for the 2022 season, Marko makes a request to both of them stating that they should not influence Masi for the upcoming F1 season.

As quoted from Formula Passion.it, Marko said, “There is no consistency in decisions, and therefore we have the feeling that everything seems random. The rules must be more precise, but the commissioners must also express themselves more clearly and make coherent decisions. We need to know what happens if we do this or that, and if we will incur this or that penalty accordingly. There must not be a single decision that is always different for other cases.”

“Just imagine, Masi sometimes only has about ten seconds to make decisions. The referee shouldn’t have anyone pestering him in his head and a decision should be made without anyone being able to influence it.”
