Most athletes are superstitious. Of course, there are exceptions like Max Verstappen, who attempt to break them the moment they notice one is forming. However, there are others like Christian Horner, who have held on to superstition for over 38 years now. Appearing on the Pardon My Take Podcast, the Red Bull team boss revealed how he had a lucky toilet in each circuit. However, fans were always curious about how this superstition came to be. Now, 2 years after the original revelation, Christian has revealed the story behind the superstition.

During the build-up to the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Horner made an appearance on an unlikely show. 48-Year-Old Charlie’s Angel star Drew Barrymore sat down with Red Bull Team Boss for a quick chat. During this discussion, they were primarily discussing Christian’s Spice Girl wife, Geri Halliwell-Horner. However, it was towards the end of the show that he revealed his story about his bizarre superstition.

Drew, curious about Horner’s superstition, prompts him, asking, “Is it true that you have a lucky toilet?” In fact, Drew further iterates that she also has the habit of repeating the same stalls herself. “I have a weird thing, where I have to repeat the same thing. Is that the same for you?”

Christian now revealed that this is something that he has been doing since he was 12-13 years old. He reveals “It is (because he won a race). I went to the loo, and I thought that worked, so I’ll use it again. It’s like a superstition now. Every race, I have a lucky loo.” Ever since then, for Horner, this superstition carried on for every race. However, it is not extremely easy for him to maintain the superstition. Immediately after revealing this story, he also recounted incidents where it could get weird for him.

Talking further about his superstition, Horner revealed, “Sometimes it gets weird when there are 20 toilets available, and you’re waiting for the one that’s engaged.”?Earlier, when he initially revealed his superstition, he also delved a bit more into this. Most paddocks have toilets in the motorhome. However, for tracks like Sao Paulo, there are only 25 toilets that everyone uses. In cases like that, he’d choose whichever one is available, and that stall becomes lucky for the rest of the weekend.

Horner’s superstitions don’t stop here though. He has plenty of other superstitions going into any race weekend. The way he approaches the drivers before the race, the way he shakes their hands, the spot he stands in the garage, and the pants that he wears are all a part of his superstitious pre-race preparation.
