Remember when Toto Wolff teased Sebastian Vettel’s return to F1 after Lewis Hamilton announced the Ferrari move? It was revealed that the Mercedes CEO talked to Vettel about F1 and that he didn’t discount the idea of signing the German. However, it was believed that Vettel, despite missing the rush of F1, wanted to focus on family and other aspects of life. But now, in a shocking turn of events, Helmut Marko has revealed how Christian Horner and Co. refused the 4X champ an opportunity to make a comeback as the German isn’t on level with Max Verstappen.

Sebastian Vettel’s F1 return is arguably being awaited as much as Michael Schumacher’s or Fernando Alonso’s return was expected. Everyone knows Vettel isn’t done with motor racing yet and it was evident when he tested Porsche’s WEC car in Aragon earlier in March. Also at the Japanese GP last year, as he stood trackside, it could be seen in Vettel’s eyes how much he missed F1.

Now, Helmut Marko has revealed how Sebastian Vettel actually approached Red Bull and asked if a seat was available for him. And apparently, the 4X champ asked more than once. According to Formel1.de, when talking about Sebastian Vettel making a comeback, Marko said, “He has also asked us again and again. But next to Verstappen, I think that would not be a pleasant time for him.” Vettel was shaken as the team that he did so much for in the early 2010s isn’t keen on signing him back.
