It’s often about the pilot in the car more than anyone else on race weekends. However, the drivers would be lost if not for their race engineers constantly providing them with information, feedback, and other details required to win a race in the modern day. In one such instance, Christian Horner spilled the beans about Max Verstappen and his race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase.

The Italian-born engineer started his F1 journey with Jordan in 2005 and joined Red Bull in 2015 as Daniil Kvyat’s team engineer. He maintained his position when the Russian was replaced by Max Verstappen and has led the Dutch Lion to successive titles in that time.
The pair enjoy a really good relationship due to their direct and precise communication. Verstappen has also praised this trait of Lambiase on several occasions. Moreover, Red Bull boss Christian Horner shared why the two have such a good relationship and compared it to the famous dating show, Love Island.
Christian Horner told Paul di Resta, “I mean you’ve worked with GP (Gianpiero Lambiase), you know what he’s like. He’s an emotional guy and you know sometimes, he’s managing Max in the car but sometimes, it’s the other way around. Max is managing him on the pit wall.”
The Red Bull boss further added, “It’s a good relationship. Sometimes you think you and I are in a series of Love Island which GP is addicted to.”
Max Verstappen had a dominating season this year, winning 15 of the possible 22 races. The Dutchman will hope it remains the same next season as he looks to push for his 3rd title.
Max Verstappen delighted by “unbelievable” 15th win of the season in Abu Dhabi
Move aside, Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher, there’s a new record holder for most race wins in a calendar year in town. Max Verstappen won his 15th race of the season in the final race of the season. The win in Abu Dhabi means Verstappen has 2 more wins than the German duo’s long-held record.
Speaking after the race, the Dutch Lion revealed how his tire management helped him triumph ahead of his teammate and Charles Leclerc. Furthermore, he also thanked the Red Bull team for turning it around after a tough start to the season.

Verstappen said, “Yeah, it was a good race. It was all about tire management – I think we looked after the mediums quite well and then on hard tires, I was literally managing from Lap 1 to the end. Incredible to win again here and [to take my] 15th win of the season is unbelievable.”
He also added, “It’s been a great team effort, especially after our tough start to the year. To turn it around like that I wouldn’t have ever imagined, I think nobody in the team [would have imagined], but it’s been really enjoyable to be part of the team.”
