For Christian Horner, it all started with “we only need one racing lap” in Abu Dhabi last year, and the rest is F1 history. History that is still in the making as Max Verstappen nears another championship title this season for Red Bull Racing.

Right now, the Red Bull Racing team principal does not intend to pause his conquest with Verstappen. In a recent interview, Horner comments on how he wishes to get back at Toto Wolff.
Does the Red Bull boss have sadistic plans for Toto Wolff?
For seven long years, Mercedes dominated Formula 1 with Lewis Hamilton bringing home the championship titles.
But then came the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021. As Toto Wolff cried out in pain, “No, Mikey, no, no, Mike, that was so not right!” Max Verstappen crossed the finish line amidst deafening cheers. Thus breaking Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes’ seven-year-long stronghold on the championship title.

It appears that was only the beginning of pain for Toto Wolff, as Christian Horner jokingly says, “I can only wish to inflict that amount of pain on Toto [Wolff] over the next eight years.”
However, Horner adds that the feat is highly “unlikely” as Ferrari and Mercedes are getting back on their feet soon.
“We’ve just had a wonderful year and the team are performing at a very high level right now.”
Christian Horner might be modest in his bragging. But it is not far-fetched to imagine Max Verstappen bringing home the championship title for many years to come. With 11 victories this season alone, at least this year’s championship trophy seems to have Verstappen’s name written on it.
Toto Wolff complains of F1 getting boring
On the other hand, Toto Wolff does not seem to be getting any less bitter after the defeat.
In a July interview, the Mercedes boss claimed that F1 was getting boring this season, “I think the reason why races have less entertainment is because there’s just too much performance gap between the teams.”

“If you have Verstappen disappearing in a distance, the two Ferraris being the only entertainment during the race and then we are in the middle of nowhere in no man’s land.”

At this point, it is plainly obvious that Max Verstappen will take home another championship title unless a miracle happens. To that end, it does take away some of the thrills of the race when you know the results.
And this statement would have held more water had it come from anyone but Toto Wolff. To complain of Verstappen and Ferrari’s dominance making F1 boring when Mercedes ruled the racetracks alone for seven years seems a little like the kettle calling the pot black.
