With his popular venture Tesla, Elon Musk has pioneered the electric vehicle sphere. The former Twitter CEO aspires to take the technology all over the globe, pushing for its expansion ever since the incorporation of the idea. As his vision continues to expand, the company has started producing performance vehicles without compromising its commitment to a greener tomorrow. However, he had another ambitious plan for F1, which he revealed to Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. The Briton, however, refuses to take it seriously.

The inaugural Miami GP in 2022 was quite the star-studded affair. This year was no different, some would say even more extravagant than the last edition. From A-list celebrities like Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez to ace athletes like Roger Federer, all descended upon the Miami International Autodrome. Surprisingly, this time, star entrepreneurs like Jeff Bezos and Elon were there too.

Musk may be a supporter of electric vehicles, but the thrill of the speed appeals to him like any. Perhaps that is what took him to the Miami GP, where he met with the who’s who of the sport. The FIA president discussed some pressing issues with the $175 billion man (net worth, as per Forbes’ live ticker). The leader of the reigning champions, Christian Horner, too was impressed with his curiosity. However, he ridiculed him for throwing his team a challenge.

Recalling the meeting during a recent interview with Financial Times, Horner joked, It’s great to see him coming to a Formula One race and embracing the combustion engine again.”

He continued, “I think he was very impressed with the technology. Obviously, an incredibly bright guy. Wanted to know all about the battery and power and output of the car. And then threw down the gauntlet of wanting to race us with one of his electrical vehicles but then realized they could only do half the race.”

Horner probably laughed off the challenge knowing that an FIA-backed all-electric open-wheel championship is already in place. Formula E is up and thriving not just because of its concept but also its exciting format. Maybe Elon is unaware of its existence.

FIA is ready to roll out its new set of regulations in 2026. The upgrades will mainly focus on the power units, which will have more reliance on the battery and lesser on the fuel. A man like Musk, who has mastered the sphere of electric vehicles, could turn out to be a great asset for any team. However, when asked if his team could collaborate with Musk in the future, Horner did not give a clear answer.

He explained, He’s a partner with Larry Ellison from Oracle, who’s our title partner. And it’s always great to meet people like that because they’re so involved in the tech and so forward-thinking as well. So, Formula One has a big regulation change in 2026, where the battery becomes more pertinent. So it would obviously be great to attract talent like that to come and invest in Formula One.”
