Alongside Nelson Piquet, former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone too has been in the middle of all the recent controversy in Formula 1. He often gives opinions that do not sit quite well with the majority of the F1 fraternity. But Red Bull team principal Christian Horner mentioned that there is another side of Ecclestone that is much softer.

People have not been thrilled with the 91-year-old recently, especially after hearing his views on the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. But in his interview with Graham Bensinger, the Red Bull team principal revealed the impact of the Brit on the sport and how he will be remembered.

“There are a couple of things he’ll be remembered for. One is the unbelievable job he did for Formula One, creating this sport that is a global phenomenon today. And I think it’s only probably when he’s gone people will realize exactly what he achieved.

I think the second thing he’ll probably be remembered for is the amount of rubbish that he bought in the auctions. And his hanger that some poor sod is got to get rid of and I think he’ll take great delight from up above,” said Horner.

Horner acknowledged the fact Ecclestone seems intimidating from the outside. But he also spoke about his softer side and the charitable donations that he makes.

The Brit mentioned Ecclestone has a big heart and makes generous donations to charities. He also gave examples of occasions when the ex-F1 boss has gone out of his way to help others.

” When you get to know the person, he’s got the biggest and most extraordinary heart and compassion I’ve ever met in a human being. He’s a guy, if anybody’s in trouble very discreetly, he’s there to help with the charity work that isn’t publicized,” explained the Red Bull team boss.
