Once you start winning and even dominating in any field, the desire to continue and to push keeps building up. However, despite the utterly dominating season Max Verstappen has had in 2023, he still stands firm on his desire to retire early from Formula 1 and test his mettle in other racing disciplines. Among those endurance series are his top priority. In fact, he has already expressed his desire to partner with Fernando Alonso to compete in Le Mans. However, every Le Mans team needs three drivers, and this is where F1 expert Peter Windsor made his suggestion.
Alonso is already a Le Mans winner. Verstappen with all his talents will no doubt be an incredible racer wherever he goes. However, no Le Mans team is complete without a third driver. This is where Windsor made his suggestion about the third driver of equal caliber to Alonso and Verstappen who could complement the team instead of complicating it on his first YouTube video of the year.

He said, “I can see Max doing a really good job at Le Mans, being super professional and being a Tom Kristensen (Le Mans wins record holder) if he wanted and winning it a million times as well with the right team and the right car.”
“Fernando obviously got his head around Le Mans and did very well,” he quickly mentioned before talking about the perfect third driver. “I think Lando (Norris) probably would be a very good choice actually. I think I would go for Lando in that car, maybe Valtteri Bottas. I think he’d do the job as well, be quiet, just fit in very well. He’d be quick and he’d be organized.”

According to Windsor, Norris and Bottas are two drivers that would fit perfectly in this ambitious and purely hypothetical team, for now. We saw for now because in 10 years this might become reality with the Red Bull setting a deadline on his F1 career.
Max Verstappen unknowingly sets a timeline for his F1 career
The Dutchman has won it all in the sport and he has done it in both nail-biting fashion and with utter domination. Now, it’s a matter of how many world championships can he win before he retires. Many assume he will keep going if he keeps winning because that is an addictive feeling.

However, that’s not the mentality of the reigning world champion. Despite how his career shapes up, he will end his career and he will do so in about 10 years.
He made that confession at the 2023 FIA Gala while answering a fairly innocent question about the sport’s future. When asked, what would F1 look like in 10 years, Verstappen said, “The petrol will probably be gone. But our sport is already becoming greener and more sustainable. Only one thing is certain: Max Verstappen will no longer be there!“

That is as straightforward as it gets. No matter how the sport looks, which we assume would be very different with all the changes being introduced, Verstappen won’t be around to experience it. So in about ten years, you can expect to see Verstappen and Alonso trying their luck in Le Mans, and then we will see if Windsor’s assessment was on point.
